Savana has been a Hilton Head Island resident for 6 years, and enjoys weekend boating and fishing with friends and family.
Laurie is an active member of her community and enjoys walks on the beach.
At Horizon, Sharon’s specialties include treating adult physical disabilities, lymphedema, and teaching. Her personal interests include reading, gardening, travel, ministry opportunities, and spending time with family.
Cassie’s hobbies include biking, kayaking, beach time, running, and watching WVU sports. Her specialty area is neurological rehabilitation.
Jacob has been working as a PTA since 2010 for Horizon Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. Outside of work he enjoys playing tennis, riding horses, and spending time with friends and family.
Melissa has an extensive background in healthcare, business administration, and marketing. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their many four-legged family members.
Dennis has been practicing physical therapy for over 20 years, specializing in working with cancer, lymphedema, and complex medical patients.
Marty is married with three children, and has lived and practiced physical therapy on Hilton Head Island for the past 24 years. He also loves being outdoors whether it’s paddle boarding, playing soccer, or on tennis court.
As Horizon Office Manager, Contessa is responsible for oversight of daily functions of the company's three clinics. She’s an extremely dedicated member of the Horizon team and works hard to ensure smooth and efficient operations for the benefit of all of our patients.
Shonda is a free spirit with an infectious, outgoing personality. When she’s not keeping everything at the front desk organized and running at peak efficiency, she cherishes time spent with family - bowling, movies, and fishing are a few of their favorite island activities.
Elizabeth has worked in medical offices for over 20 years and enjoys serving patients and working with a team that shares the same passion. She has been married for 21 years and has two children, ages 14 and 16 years old.
Katherine is originally from Columbus, GA, and completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, VA. She loves playing tennis, enjoying a day on the beach, running with her dog, and spending time with friends and family.
Elaine Ryan, a South African trained Physical Therapist, had been living and working in the United States for last 25 years. She is married with 3 teenage children, and they enjoy being involved in their community through serving those in need - as a family.
Since transplanting from upstate New York five years ago, Leah now lives in Bluffton, SC with her family. She enjoys taking her daughter to the beach and teaching Zumba classes around the local community.
Joey’s been practicing physical therapy since 2010, and has a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, both from West Virginia University. “The best part of my job is helping people get back to the activities they love!”
Brittany is passionate about helping others reach their optimal function and personal goals. During her free time, she also enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and their chocolate lab.
Matthew’s mantra is “Incorporate Exercise Science and Wellness in daily life”. His interests are golf, and spending time with friends and family.
While in college at WVU, Joey had the privilege to work with several athletic teams at both West Virginia University and Fairmont State University, as well as a summer internship with the Carolina Panthers.
In July 2015 he moved to Bluffton, SC to work at Horizon Rehabilitation, and loves exploring everything the Lowcountry area has to offer with his wife Brittani and his "puppy son" Gunner, a chocolate Labradoodle.
In addition to physical therapy, Joey loves to practice woodworking in his garage – learning all the wrong ways to build things – as well as playing and watching soccer.
Sharon graduated with an MS in Occupational Therapy from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1985, and has over 31 years of occupational therapy experience in a variety of backgrounds ranging from pediatrics and adult physical dysfunction to academia and administration.
As an occupational therapist at Horizon Rehab & Sports Medicine, Sharon specializes in hand therapy, upper extremity injuries/conditions, Lymphedema treatment, general neuro, administration of Functional Capacity Evaluations, and work conditioning. This wide skill range provides opportunity for exposure to a variety of diagnoses, and to apply her decades of experience as a general and specialized occupational therapist. Previous experience in working in both home health and a rural school system setting pushed Sharon to be creative in treatment approaches, and now allows her to use those same techniques with her current patients. For instance, it’s not uncommon for her to utilize various objects and materials her patients’ homes in order to meet their treatment needs!
Elaine has been practicing physical therapy for almost three decades. She is a dedicated problem solver and her strengths lie in the diversity of treatments she can offer her patients combined with her unending persistence to find a solution for their issues. Her skills include joint and soft tissue mobilization, dry needling, and taping. She has also had extensive training in treating women with pelvic floor conditions and with complex, chronic pain. She firmly believes that knowledge is power, that all patients are ultimately responsible for their own well being, and she will be there to support them through education and custom tailored exercise programs.
When not helping patients, she loves spending time with her husband and their three teenagers, and she is currently working toward embarking on a medical mission trip specifically to aid women and address women's health issues in Africa.
Hailing from Indiana, Dennis was lead therapist and oversaw the Oncology / Hematology program at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis before moving to Hilton Head.
Dennis now practices with us here at Horizon Rehabilitation, where we are developing the “Horizon of H.O.P.E.” Life program (Helping Oncology Patients Enjoy Life). Dennis also lectures extensively and developed the “Core Efficiency Model for treatment of Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain.”
Away from the clinic, Dennis is an avid golfer and tennis player, but strives to perform volunteer community service whenever he can. This includes coaching local junior baseball, basketball, soccer teams, plus he is currently the Hilton Head High School JV Tennis team’s coach. He is a past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, business consultant of Health & Fitness for the HHI School for Creative Arts, and is lead coordinator for the therapy tent at the PTR Wheelchair Championships.
