Imagine life without balance
Close your eyes and stand on one foot. It’s hard, right? Now imagine having that same disorienting feeling on two feet, and with your eyes open. Balance is something most of us take for granted. It’s automatically hardwired into our bodies at birth, evolving and adapting as we grow and age. While basic balance is innate, some are able to perfect or even master balance through exercise and practice. But we don’t often think about our balance — until of course, we lose it.
Balance Awareness Week brings attention to balance-related vestibular disorders, such as Meniere’s disease and vestibular migraine, and symptoms ranging from dizziness and imbalance to vertigo and tinnitus. While many of these conditions are incurable, effective physical therapy can greatly improve quality of life.
Balance Challenge: Are you at risk of falling?
As we celebrate Balance Awareness Week, there are a couple of things you can practice at home to gauge your risk of falling. As Dani explains in this video, there is a lot when we can do with physical therapy and exercise when it comes to maintaining and improving our balance while decreasing the risk of falls.

We use the flamingo (standing on one leg) to help represent balance and help raise awareness about those who struggle with vestibular and balance dysfunction.
